Biography

After debuting as a stage director at the Studio Theatre of the Comédie-Française in 1999, Vincent Boussard decided to devote himself to opera staging.

Meanwhile he has staged, among others, Dido&Aeneas by Purcell (Les Arts Florissants, William Christie), Theodora by Handel (Liceo Salamanca and Ariaga Bilbao), Il Re Pastore by Mozart (La Monnaie Brussels, Innsbruck Festival, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, Teatro sociale di Como, Teatro Fraschini di Pavia), La Descente d'Orphée aux Enfers, Les Arts Florissants and Actéon by Charpentier (Les Arts Florissants, William Christie), Eliogabalo by Cavalli (La Monnaie Brussels, Innsbruck Festival), Cosi fan tutte (La Monnaie Brussels), Maria Golovin by Menotti (Marseilles Opera, Spoleto Festival, Amazonas de Manaus Festival), Don Giovanni (Innsbruck Festival, Baden-Baden Festival), Frühlingserwachen by Benoît Mernier (La Monnaie, Opéra national du Rhin), Le Nozze di Figaro (Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg), El Pozo de Esteve and La Leccion de Musica by Laserna (Festival de Teatro Clasico, Almagro), Il Sant'Agnese by Pasquini (Innsbruck Festival) as well as Floridante (Handel Festival Halle).

He also directed the concert-shows of popsinger Christophe (Victoire de la Musique for best show 2002) and of Alain Bashung.

Some of his productions have been TV broadcasted and released on DVD, receiving accolades from the critics, such as Frühlingserwachen (awarded "Diapason d'or"), Don Giovanni and Dido&Aeneas.

In collaboration with William Christie, Vincent Boussard has been involved several times in the young artists' program of Les Arts Florissants, the "Jardin des Voix" (1st, 2d and 4th editions). Furthering his commitment towards young singers, he has also collaborated with opera studios at the Escuela Reina Sofia in Madrid, at the Vlaamse Opera Studio in Ghent, at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Brussels and at the Opera Studio of Lyon Opera.

Vincent Boussard's plans in 2009/10 include Louise by Charpentier at the Opéra national du Rhin, Agrippina by Handel at the Staatsoper Berlin and Dido&Aeneas at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York (with Les Arts Florissants). Further plans include Lady Macbeth from Mzensk at the Staatstheater Braunschweig, Hamlet at the Marseille Opera, Carmen at the Stockholm Opera as well as Adriana Lecouvreur at the Francfort Opera.
