Biography
Raphaël Sévère was born in 1994 in France. His mother, a hungarian pianist and his father, a french clarinetist gave him a very early musical education - piano, violin and cello.At eight, Raphaël Sévère took to the clarinet at the Conservatoire of Nantes where he showed exceptional abilities for the instrument. One year later, he jumped not less than eight levels and was directly admitted to the top-grade class while performing Poulenc's sonata and Jolivet's "Ascesis". In 2009, not yet 15, he was unanimously admited to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris.
He already won several awards: First Prize and Special Prize of the jury a the Lempdes National Competition (2005), First Prize at the Ufam International Competition in Paris (upper level, 2006), Second Prize at the Bucharest International Competition in Rumania (age-group 18, 2006), Second Prize at the Marco Fiorindo International Competition in Italy (age-group 18, December 2006), First Prize at the European Music Competition of Picardy in France (upper level, 2007), First Prize and Special Prize of the jury at the Tokyo International Competition in Japan (age-group 20, 2007), "Talent 2008" at the CIM International Competition in Val d'Isère..
In 2007 Raphaël Sévère was the youngest soloist invited to the French festival "La Folle Journée", playing both the clarinet and the piano. He was reinvited there in 2008 and performed also at the "Folle Journée" in Tokyo and at the French May in Hong Kong. In 2009 he performed at the Festival "Les vacances de Monsieur Haydn" (artistic director : Jérôme Pernoo), at the Dinard Festival (artistic director : Kun Woo Paik) and at the Feldkirch Festival. Further plans include recitals and chamber music concerts as well as performances with the Orchestre de Picardie, the Orchestre national d'Ile-de-France and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg.
His first CD-recording of French music (Hortus Editions, 2008) has been acclaimed by the critics.
